How long does a crib mattress last for??

We are expecting baby # 2 (Due in late August). Our son is 3.5 years old and we are transfering his toddler bed back to the crib (getting him a big boy bed). Do we need a new mattress? How long do they typically last for?  Ours is about 4 years old....

  • You can reuse your crib mattress. We have safely done it without any problem. DS1 used the mattress for 2yrs 4 months and now DS2 is a little over 2 and he's using it still.

  • Great. So I bought a used crib, and they gave me the mattress too. It's a sealy and in excellent condition. The crib set was bought from grandparents, who only had their grandkids sleep over a handful of times when they were small. They told me that all i

  •  I would think that if the cover was intact it would be fine. I don't think the standards for crib mattresses has changed, just for the cribs themselves (dropsides).
