Twins...Excited but extremely nervous!

Exciting right?!? Also, crazy scary! At my first ultrasound this past week my husband and I found out we are expecting twins and are 7 weeks along! We are so excited, especially since this is our first pregnancy! However, then came the news that Baby B's amniotic sac is not as big as Baby A's, both the yolk sacs are the same size which is good news but they are concerned with the lack of space right now for Baby B and we were informed that this could be a "vanishing twin" pregnancy which is common. My sister-in-law (she does our ultrasounds) also informed us that both babies had really good strong heart beats (A-120 and B-126) so it could just be that Baby B  is developing a little slower than Baby A. I'm not usually one to write about stuff but I guess the nerves are taking over and since we haven't told anyone yet that we are even expecting, other than my sister-in-law, I just wanted to know if anyone else has had or known someone who had a similar situation? Just trying to stay calm for the time being and pray/hope for the best.  Best wishes to everyone throughout their pregnancies!

  • Yes, exciting and scary! I worried about VTS, too, without a discrepancy. I hope that you get good news soon and can relax and enjoy! Our MFM said that if everything looks good at a 12 week ultrasound, your chances of losing one drops to 1 to 2 percent. U

  • Congratulations and welcome! I think some discrepancy is common. It's hard to predict what will happen, but I have seen plenty of ladies in similar situations with positive outcomes. GL!

  • My Baby B's sac was quite a bit smaller than Baby A's.  The babies were the same size, though.  My OB watched Baby B a little closer, but by 12 weeks it was never mentioned again.  My twins are now almost 9 months old!

  • Thank you all so much! It is so good to hear so many positive things! Our next apt is May 6th so hopefully we will get good news and Baby B will be catching up!
  • Hey there, we were/are in the same boat as you. At our 6w3d u/s Baby A's sac was significantly smaller, and A's heart rate was a bit slower, though well within normal range. I worried myself sick over Baby A! Last week, at 8w5d, Baby A's sac was still

Our journey to parenthood began in July 2010. After a great deal of heartache, we are expecting di/di twins in November 2013. We are a two-mom family, and write about our journey as a way of providing support for other families like ours at http://mothershood.wordpress.com Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • Congrats! Our Baby A was diagnosed as a vanishing twin at our first ultrasound so we were shocked on our second scan two weeks later when Baby A and B were both thriving.  Once there is a solid heartbeat, the chances of something going wrong decrease
