Human Milk Fortifier?

Anyone ever use this? My son was born at 39w2d, and he is a little over 3 weeks old and not up to birth weight yet. He is 6 lb 14 oz and his birth weight was 7 lbs 2 oz. After a weighed feeding, he was 7 lb 2 oz again. She wants me to do HMF for at least a month? He had thrush and jaundice in the beginning and was down to about 6 and a half lbs, but has done well getting his weight back. He nurses until he has emptied both breasts (I am still working on getting my supply back after thrush) and I give him 2-4 oz of formula if he is still hungry. She gave me higher calorie formula (22 instead of 20) to give him..

Any advice for anything I can be giving him also to fortify milk too? A month's supply is 200 dollars, that seems pretty crazy. Plus I'd have to pump every single time, and I hate to take the comfort of nursing from him. Sorry for the ramble.

Re: Human Milk Fortifier?

  • Can you ask if you can just fortify the formula instead? We used neosure [higher calorie] and added more scoops for more calories. I also fortified my breast milk by adding neosure to it and bottle feeding.

  • I think your pedi is jumping the gun, considering he's at BW now.

Pumping, in many cases, is a supply killer. If you're trying to regain supply, choosing to pump over BF is counter productive.

What about just going in for weekly
