Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If you've flown with LO alone...

I am going to my brother's college graduation in May.  He lives in Houston, and I live in Denver...I had planned on going by myself.  Then I talked to him yesterday, and he was hurt that at the very least I wasn't bringing LO with me. (DH isn't going either.) So now I'm contemplating taking LO with me as a lap child (we have so many trips this summer we're trying to save by DH not going and not buying another flight.) I would be flying out and back at night both times around LO's bedtime.  He's a little squirmy these days now that he's fully mobile, I'm just nervous. We got LO his own seat for our other trips, and because we can tag team on those I'm not nervous about it.

Any advice on how to maneuver this successfully...or whether or not I should would be welcome.

  • It's a non-stop flight, right? And near bedtime? I'd totally do it. My girls always fall asleep when we fly close to bedtime or nap time. The white noise just knocks them right out. Bring lots of snacks in case he doesn't sleep. Gate check the stroller

    - Let LO bring his/her

  • I haven't flown alone with him since he's been mobile, but I flew alone with him a number of times when he was younger.

I agree with the advice to take as little as you can for carry ons. I would still take a stroller to the gate, though - we jus

  • As a single parent I think I found flying with LO to be easier than when someone was with me. Everyone was super helpful, strangers, flight attendants etc. I gate checked the stroller so I could wheel LO around in the stroller with all the bags on it a

  • Totally doable. I've done one by myself several times and even both kids by myself and it's not as hard as you think it would be. Just bring a lot of snacks, stickers, some quiet toys, and some suckers in case things are rough.

  • Everyone here has great advice.  The same I would give.  I will add though -- Does LO like to be in a carrier?  The last time I flew alone with DD was at Christmas (13m).  She isn't walking yet, but very squirmy.  I used my Moby w
