Not trying to be snotty, I just really don't understand. From what I understand the risks to mother and baby for using an epidural are so small. We have modern medicine, why not use it and avoid the pain?
Those wanting to go natural (without pain drugs) is there something I should know?

Re: Why would anybody attempt "natural" childbirth?
Because getting stabbed in the back 7x with my first and 11+x with my second was a flucking nightmare. I almost passed out with my second.
And, because childbirth has been happening since the beginning of man. I think it's pret
For me it's just a matter of personal preference. DH and I had to go through some fairly invasive fertility treatments in order to get pregnant. It meant doctors, drugs, and ultrasounds were a part of our daily life. I would just like
If I had another kid, there's no way I'd get another epidural. They botched mine and my delivery and recovery were a disaster because of it.
Natural childbirth is something our bodies were designed to do, and women have been doing it for thousan
I chose to get the epidural, it quit working after a couple of hours. I ended up having a c/s after 21 hours of labor because the cord was around her neck twice and she could not move down. So then with the c/s the epidural was removed since it was not
Like all previous posters said, its a natural thing women have been designed to do since the dawn of time. Secondly, for me, it has NOTHING to do with "challenging myself with the pain" but rather not wanting an onslaught of drugs entering my system an
I had a C/S with my first and the pain medication made me shaky, nauseous and itchy. I had to be on additional meds to handle the symptoms of the first set of meds and it knocked me out. I had no bonding time with my infant.
I don?t want to be numb and not be able to stand up and walk around if I want to.
I don?t want to be stabbed in my back with a gigantic needle.
I don?t want to risk having my epidural get screwed up.
I want to experience an un
I had a natural childbirth with my daughter for many reasons. I went in with the mentality that if it became too much, I'd consider other options. It was painful, but not to sound weird, but it was the most beautiful thing I ever experience

I am not going to argue with the whole "women are designed for this" because we are but there is modern medicine to make it easier. Using that as a sole reason to go natural, to me, is ridiculous.
I had an epidural with both of my pregnancies and
I'm considering it this time. I had a rough labor the first time (4-day induction--I had pre-E). If I can avoid being induced this time, then I'd like to try to go as long as possible without the epidural.
I still felt a ton of pain last time and
Why run a marathon? Why climb a mountain? We have couches!
I feel very strongly that women should have the option of an epidural/ other medical pain-managment options, should they need them, but to write off everyone interested in natural birth *
With my first son when I was laboring naturally I was progressing perfectly (3cm-6cm in about an hour and half), when I hit 6 cm I asked for an epi and it took me 8 hours to go from 6-10cm with the help of LOTS of pitocin. Then I was so numb I couldn't
I've done it both ways.
With my first I had the epidural and it was a fabulous birth experience. I felt very mentally present since I wasn't focused on the pain. I pushed for about 25 minutes but couldn't feel what I was doing.&n
Because epidurals that are turned up too high are contributing to a massive rise in women with pelvic floor problems later in live (urinary incontinence, uterine prolapse, etc) and there are LOTS of risks to both epidural anesthesia as well as IV anest
I like the drugs! & I will get the drugs again!
But in all seriousness though, it's really personal choice. Some people need the medicine due to a complicated labor and some women want to keep it as natural as possible. It's all part of your

Well maybe I'm the minority but there is no way I would be having a second child if I couldn't get another epidural. I was 5 cm when I finally asked for it and honestly I wouldn't have cared if Jack the Ripper came in and put it in with a knife at that
