Repeat C-section: experiences?

For those who have undergone a repeat c-section, what was it like?  Was it easier or harder the second time around?  I've got mine in 9 days and I'm getting kind of nervous!  I'd love to hear your experiences.  For instance, do you have 2 scars or does it look like 1?  What type of anesthesia was used and what did that feel like (I had an epidural with my previous since I had already labored for 20 hours, but I don't remember much about how it felt when they put it in or during the operation)?  Did you heal more slowly or more quickly than the first time, or about the same?  If you wouldn't mind sharing your experience, I would truly appreciate it!  Thanks!

Re: Repeat C-section: experiences?

  • I had a repeat csection and am looking at a third one! I had a spinal both times, which worked well for me. The second time the pain took longer to show up, perhaps because my new doc used a different kind of pain management after the surgery

  • My friend just had her 2nd C-section. Her first was emergent and she said this recovery-- because it was planned (she had partial placenta previa)-- was MUCH easier. She was less tired (no pushing and labouring beforehand), she had been able to get better

  • I've had 2 csections also! I did notice a difference in terms of pain tolerance on my experiences. For my first, I was 25 and never even touched my morphing pump. I used ibuprofen only for pain meds. For my 2nd, I was 35 and couldn't use that pump eno
  • I had a much better experience with my 2nd csection.  I did not go into labor so my recovery was much easier.  It was surreal to be admitted at 6:30 am and have a baby before 9am that morning.  I did not get admitted into a regular labor ro

  • The actual c-section was much harder the 2nd time around but the recovery was much easier. I didn't react well to whatever they gave me and I started throwing up on the table and couldn't stop. It was awful and it lasted for close to 4 hours. Once&nbsp

  • Thank you all so much!  Every single one of these stories makes me feel better (even those who said the second was worse!  It's all good information. :) ).  It sounds like for the most part a planned second c-section is easier to recover fr
