Frustrated with my Ameda 'Purely Yours' Pump!!!

So it's been established my either my sons mouth is too small or my nipple is too big for him to get a good latch. I'm glad to say that when he does latch on he takes about 1.5 - 2 ounces from me. FYI - I breastfeed and pump with my right breast and pump with the left. I was trying to increase my supply and spent days in the house putting him to the breast and pumping! I got to the point where I was pumping about 4-5 ounces a day. As of last Thursday I've had clogged ducts like you wouldn't believe!! Painful and sleepless nights! I was pumping and NOTHING was coming out! The suction is like crap! I hear my son swallowing but I still have to supplement! I ended up renting a hospital grade Ameda pump today and got 3 ounces in less than 10 minutes! I waited 2 hours and got another 3 ounces in less than 10 minutes.

I said all this to ask...Is it possible to get my milk supply back faithfully using the hospital grade pump? I plan to pump every 2-3 hours. I'm praying it does! I feel so guilty every time I have to give him a formula bottle.

  • Yeah, I have that pump too and it sucks. Keep using the hospital pump and hopefully it'll help with your supply! Eat oatmeal for breakfast (and/or oatmeal cookies) It helps!

  • I have the same pump but mine works fine. Is it possible that your parts are damaged? The little white piece that fits inside the bottle was torn and I couldn't get anything out. It was such a small tear that I didn't even notice.

    Keep using

  • I'm glad to hear that other ladies think that pump sucks too... I thought it was just me as it's the only one I've tried. It was the one covered by my insurance and it is (supposedly) one of the better ones. Suction is crap, I'm happy to get 4ozs after 3
  • I have the purely yours and right now I can only use one side because the white valve is torn like pp said. I have to go to babies r us to get another one. But I do get at least 4 oz every time I pump, so it's been a good pump for me.

    But y

  • I hate my Ameda pump. I always ended up hand expressing  after trying to use the dumb thing. The suction is just awful.
  • If your having suction issues with your pumps, I would try replacing the valves for sure.
  • I have nothing to add about the pump, but there's no reason you shouldn't be able to increase your supply.  Nurse as much as possible as you'll respond best to baby, follow up with pumping.  Make sure you're eating a good diet and drinking to

  • I have the Purely Yours and my motor is dying...it can only go to half suction before this terrible clicking. Did you get yours through insurance? Mine was given to me. Luckily I called my insurance and edge park medical is now offering the Medela PISA so

  • Have the LC or anyone said to use a nipple shield? My DS will only nurse with it, he hates my nipples! He was a preemie, so couldn't latch at first, but these things work awesome as a last resort. Some people say they can affect your supply, but I beg
  • Just called edgepark and the medela is not offered for united healthcare members:

It is either the playtex Double Electric Breast Pump or ameda brand. Anyone like playtex??
