A few of my colleagues at work were saying that when they told their ob/gyns that they were thinking about getting pregnant, they were told to start taking a baby aspirin. Both girls got pregnant pretty a few months later. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence or advice other people are also getting from their docs. Has anybody else been given this advice?
Re: anyone heard of taking a baby aspirin if you're ttc?
I just googled it and got this article:
https://www.amazingpregnancy.com/pregnancy-articles/319.html titled
"How does baby aspirin help with trying to get pregnant?"
if anybody else was curious
There was a book called Fertility Facts that I was reading this week and it actually did adivce to stick with asprin if you are TTC instead of other meds which might hinder your fertility.
That is true to a point. It is not safe for children and infants to take aspirin or taking it if you are breastfeeding. Some doctors also recommend you stop it in the last trimester due to issues with bleeding after delivery or c-section.
Nope, you're not supposed to take advil.
This is why you should check with your doctor first. I did not need the aspirin for anything and it caused me a lot of problems. I bled like a fiend and had HORRIBLE cramps the month I took it. It was awful.
Wow, I will definitely check with my OB then. I took a few doses this week with my multivitamin and have noticed bruises on my arms and legs. I don't recall bumping myself, so I wonder if it had anything to do with the aspirin.
Sorry, I was asking Bee what happened when she took it without consulting her doc. I hadn't discovered the "quote" button yet. oops.
A bruise is you bleeding on the inside. Aspirin is a blood thinner and delays clotting. Hence easy bruises.
Bleeding on the inside? Where did you hear that?
how about amoxicillian (sp) ?
Yea, cause its cool to take meds that you are unsure about and haven't talked to your dr about it before hand. Sounds like a winner plan to me.
Google. Use it. Love it. Talk to your dr.
well, considering the fact that it is an over the counter medication, I don't think you have to check with your doctor for EVERY medication you take. It's true that all medications have risks related to it, however, taking a baby aspirin is not going to kill you, nor would a regulary 325mg aspirin. We all need to our judgment. Yes, there are side effects (platelet inhibition for ASA), but there are also benefits.
I already know this but I googled it for you.....
"A bruise, also called a contusion or ecchymosis, is an injury to biological tissue in which the capillaries are damaged, allowing blood to seep into the surrounding tissue. It is usually caused by blunt impact. Bruises often induce pain but are not normally dangerous. Sometimes bruises can be serious, leading to other more life threatening forms of hematoma, or can be associated with serious injuries, including fractures and internal bleeding. The likelihood of bruising, and severity of it, increases as one ages, because elderly human skin becomes thinner and less elastic. Minor bruises may be easily recognized, in people with light skin color, by their characteristic blue or purple appearance (idiomatically described as "black and blue") in the days following the injury.

Considering H's grandfather almost died because of several ulcers in his stomach that he didn't know about and he was taking asprin on a daily basis, I think it would be a good idea to check with your dr with things like that. You do know that certain OTC pain meds make your stomach bleed? Not to mention what happened to Bee. But feel free to play with your own health. Not going to effect me at all.
Mandy, knock it off! The devil froze his tail off! LOL We must let Hell get back to normal temp.
This happened to my mother too, however she was not taking a baby dose and was doing it for years. She felt weak for a few days and ended up at the hospital. She barely had a pulse and they found she was bleeding out internally. They had to do emergency surgery to fix the ulcers and stop the bleeding. She can never take aspirin or Tylenol again.
