I've been lurking a while now, I know you get lots of nervous moms asking for your opinions, so I apologize for essentially being another one of those. I appreciate any thoughts you can share.
DS2 is 13 months old. He is a super laid back baby, almost never cries and can be very content to play with toys for longer periods of time. He is quick to smile and laugh and is a very cuddly baby. Everyone told me for a long time the reason he was later doing things was his personality. He has been diagnosed with strabismus in his eyes and wears glasses.
He hit all of his earliest milestones at the very end of the normal range. However, at this point he pulls himself up, but does little cruising, his only 2 words are mama and dada and it still seems more like syllable babbling then distinct identification. He does some other babbling a little bit. His pincher grasp isn't great, but we were slow to introduce foods so that one doesn't worry me as much.
At our one year appointment, based upon his lack of cruising and limited word usage, pedi referred us to early intervention. Waiting for them to call is driving me crazy.
I'm wondering if others have stories to share, but some specfic questions I have:
*Can a delay in hitting milestones simply be a delay, and they'll catch up or is it always indicative of a bigger issue going on?
*Based upon the information I've shared, does anything jump out at you?
*What questions would you have for early intervention? How would you best prepare yourself to meet with them? I don't want to report every minute of his day, but I don't want to leave something out that would be really crucial for them to help with figuring my little boy out.
*Do you have ideas of things we might start trying to help our LO catch up?
Thanks for any information you have to share. You are helping out one nervous momma!
Re: Your Thoughts- please
Since you are in a waiting stage regarding EI and speech is a concern, you could go ahead a schedule a hearing test with
Yes, your child's delay can simply be a function of his personality. My son is an ei graduate. He was diagnosed with nearly a year delay in language. He is three now and in preschool. You can't tell the difference between him and children who were talk
I don't know the extent of your LO's visual impairment, but a visual impairment can cause delays. If the child can't focus, s/he feels insecure to reach out and move towards objects s/he is curious about. VI can also cause issues with depth perception,
