sleeping issues

Hey ladies. I am having a tough time getting lo to sleep. I'm not sure if I'm over thinking this right now or what but any advice you can give would be great. Here is my usual nightly routine: bottle at 7, bath at 8. Book and rocking until about 9. Then I put him in his crib totally awake and with his paci. He likes to side sleep..so I put him on his side then white noise and out the door. I go in only if he's crying or loses his paci. I'm not sure what else I can do. He is up several times a night still. I've cut out his night feeds since I know he isn't needing them. When I go in to get him back down he is completely awake...I mean giggling and cooing awake. Then he thinks its time to play! I need to sleep and somethimes he's up like this 4x a night! It takes about 25 mins to get him back to sleep. Then he's up at 7....help please. Ftm here.

Re: sleeping issues

  • I'm confused... You cut his night feedings because you know he doesn't need them? How exactly do you know that?

  • Not an expert here... but I'll share what our experience has been so far.

LO was doing a great job sleeping since birth.  She gets a bath every other night, then snuggles/books until she's fussy (usually

  • My theory is also that he's probably hungry. Mine still wakes up at least twice to eat at night.

ETA: Ditto pp suggestion and maybe switch bath w/bottle and see if that makes a difference.

  • First, If he's content (aka not crying or making any kind of upset sounds), leave him be.  He'll let you know if he wants something, but, if he's cooing, he's fine.

  • I might be wrong, I am a FTM too, but I assume if he is cooing and giggling that is what she means by cutting out the night time feedings because he doesn't need them. If he is content I agree just let him be. If he is waking up upset the first thing I wo

  • I am going to Ditto what everyone else has said.

Chances are - he is hungry and needs to eat.

I would definitely switch to where he is eating right before bed. That way he goes to sleep nice and full.

  • My LO has not slept through the night. I think we are just not one of the lucky ones with a LO that sleeps through the night. She wakes up between 12:30 and 2 and 3:30 and 5 with 5 being very rare. I put her to sleep on her back but she rolls on to her be

  • You don't cut out night feeds. Your baby does. Getting up with baby at all hours sucks, but welcome to motherhood. You can't force STTN.

  • 1. Bedtime routines are important, but it sounds like yours is taking quite a long time and LO is going to be pretty late. What is their natural wake up time? You should shoot to have them in bed around 12 hours before their natural wake up. It sounds

  • My LO does wake up in the night sometime and not want to eat, so I don't think waking up automatically means he's hungry.

Having said that, I think your bedtime routine is taking way too long. It's two hours af

  • I agree with what PP said about feeding, baby is probably hungry. Also, I know my LO needs rocking and to be mostly asleep before being put down or else she'll wake back up, a paci helps too. My LO was also doing a party in her crib at 2am or 4 am when sh

  • Ftm here too but in my opinion, you maybe taking too long to put him in bed from 79pm. This is my routine with my LO. I give him a bath at 8 then around 8:20 start feeding him by 9pm he is in bed. I usually give him 1 oz more than his regular bottle to m

  • I agree with the people who suggested switching the bath and bottle (also that the routine may be too long). If you're not already doing this, monitor LO's daily intake

  • Was your LO already STTN and then regressed or is this just what he's been doing all along? My LOs are still not STTN (one is 13 lbs and the other 10 1/2 lbs) and they are moving from two night feedings to one b/c they are starting to gradually sleep l

  • Check out Nov '12 board. We seem to be posting about sleep issues multiple times a day so there is some good info there from people who have dropped feedings through sleep training.
