How do you heat baby food?

I make DD's baby food. I store them in BPA free plastic, glass or saran wrap if I use the ice cube tray. I've been heating it like I do BM, microwave some water & place it in there. That is taking forever! And it doesn't get hot enough. I'm afraid microwaving it will kill the nutrients. Such a small amount to do it on the stove. What do you guys do?

  • I freeze into ice cube trays and then I pop out a couple and microwave them for 30 seconds.  I've never heard that it kills nutrients but I've never researched that either, it just never occurred to me.

  • I store my homemade food in Honey Suckle 4 oz baby food storage bags.  I freeze them flat so that they are pretty thin.  To thaw I run them under hot water or put them in a cup of hot water.  They thaw quickly and then I squeeze them int

  • I usually do what you do... but if it isn't working, I boil some water and add a tiny bit of boiled water to the puree. Or warm some pumped breastmilk and add that. That usually does the trick.

  • I just serve everything cold she doesn't seem bothered. To dethaw I sit it in a bowl of warm water so it might be luke warm but never hot.

  • I pull mine out of the freezer and put in the fridge so they are thawed the next morning. I usually mix with a little of warmed bottle or use the defrost setting on my microwave so it doesn't get too hot.
