mastitis :( my day is ruined pls help

i spent the night in awful pain, with a throbbing headache, the chills, feeling like i have been hit by a truck.  i still nursed her on that side but this morning with my breast killing me and the awful nipple pain i still have, i tried using a shield.  blood started coming out but i don't know from where.  i felt like shiit because she thought she was getting the first drops of milk but it turned out to be my freaking blood.  dh is on midnights and i'm here alone and i don't know what to do because my stupid manual pump isn't sucking.  am i supposed to call my obgyn or pcp?  can they just call antibiotics in for me or do i have to wait til tomorrow and try and get an office visit?  how long will this last after i get meds?  i'm so engorged and you can see on the left side of my breast the redness, it's so sore i just want to cry right now...

    Oh no!! I've had mastitis and it's AWFUL. You are going to want to nurse as frequently as possible to get it out. Also, use a warm compress on your breasts before nursing the start milk flow and have her nurse until you are empty. If your pump isn't working, try to expel by hand. As you are nursing move your hand downwards towards the nipple to get it out. What mastitis is is milk that has been in a duct too long and is now infected. Your baby is fine to nurse while you are sick.

    Call your ob and get an antibiotic called in too. GL.

    I've had mastitis three times.  So I completely know how you feel. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this right now.  I called my ob, described what was going on, and they called in a perscription for me.  It took me about 3 doses to start feeling better....take Ibuprofin for the pain, I had some prescription strength that the OB prescribed while in the hospital and that seemed to help with the pain while pumping/nursing.  I took the meds for a week and it was completely cleared up. You will start to feel better within a day though.  I'm so sorry Rach!

    I am sorry. YOu could try a hot compress before you nurse too, and take a hot shower and try to hand express. I hope you feel better soon.

    I was going to recommend the hot compress and the shower as well.  I hope you feel better.

    I called at 9:15am and still waiting for the dr to call me back.  DH went to CVS and got me a new manual, thankfully I got the milk out so I'm not in so much pain.  I nursed her again on it after pumping with the nipple shield so I guess I will just keep this up until I get a call back.

    p.s. filling a diaper with hot water works great for a heat compression!
