Sleep sack to blanket?

Have any of your LO's made the transition from a sleep sack to a blanket?  If so, any words of wisdom?  Did you also put a pillow in the crib?  C is almost too big for the size large sleep sacks, but I just don't see her being able to cover herself up with a blanket.  I'm worried she'll get cold or won't sleep as well without her sleep sack.  (Ha... after re-reading that last sentence, I find it funny that I think she won't sleep as well without the sleep sack... she still wakes up at least twice at night, so I hope it can't get any worse!)

Re: Sleep sack to blanket?

  • DD has been sleeping with a blanket since 5 months.  She has become very attached to it and will often wake up and search for it to get back to sleep.  She sleeps in footie PJs so I dont worry about her being cold (onesie underneath if its below

  • DS still uses his sleep sack and I have the same concerns as you. He is all over the place and I know a blanket would never stay on him. A few weeks ago he had a super high fever for a few nights and he did just fine without the sleep sack.

  • Thanks everyone!  I think I'll start putting a blanket in her crib while she's still in the sleep sack, so hopefully when she eventually outgrows it she'll already be used to having it in there.  I'll wait a little longer on the pillow.

  • I switched about 2 months ago and it took DD a week or so to adjust to no sleep sack (which is funny because she's napped without one since she was 3 months old!).  She still slept the same overnight, it just took her longer to fall asleep.

  • DS slept swaddled up to about 4-5 mo (or until he outgrew all his receiving blankets.)  Since it was summer about that time, we never worried about him getting cold, only too hot. A stand fan & AC worked there.  However, in the winter, DS's
