Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Reaction to sweet potato?

So we just started DS on solids.  We waited until he was 6 months, no rice cereal or oatmeal, straight to the pureed solids.  Did this with DD too.  SO he had some Friday afternoon and ate the whole thing!  That night he had a bad diaper rash that I still can't get to go away.  I haven't let him have the solids again, just waiting for the rash to go away.

Has anyone else had this?  Sweet potato seems like the most benign food so I wasn't expecting him to have a reaction.

  • E haven't had the rash but she spit up when she had sweet potatoes and I'm still waiting to see if it's sweet potatoesor something else

  • The one time that DD has sweet potatoes she was up all night screaming. Not sure if that's what caused it but it freaked me out enough to not try them again. That was 2 months ago.

  • My 7 m/o has reflux and sweet potato made it worse.  He would vomit puddles of puke for hours after he ate it. Carrots gave him hives and he hated squash.  No orange veggies for us for now lol
  • My LO gets a rash when he eats sweet potato.
  • Looks like I'm the odd one out here, but LO loves sweet potatoes and has no reaction...rash, vomit, or otherwise.

  • It's possible but it does seem like a benign food to do that. but if it was his first food than it's going to take some time for his body to adjust, right? with a diaper rash that doesn't get better with diaper cream i always want to check to make sure it

  • Maybe it was too much too soon.  My dr recommended feeding solids after a bottle so she only has a tablespoon or so of the solid food.  That makes it easier for their little bodies to get used to the new food.

  • DS had a red rash on both cheeks after the first time he had sweet potato. He also vomited/spit up after it as well. (He has reflux, too).
