wwyd: playpen vs big bed

I am at a total loss of what I should do.  Right now ds sleeps in his crib, sleeps great, naps okay and never tries to climb out.  I planned on keeping him in the crib until he climbed out or decided he was ready  for a big boy bed.  Here is the catch,  we are going to disney at the end of september and will be at a hotel for 9 nights.  The hotel doesn't have cribs they only provide playpens.  Ds no longer sleeps well in a playpen, wakes up multiple times a night.  Im not sure if it is just because he is getting to big or if it is because it is uncomfortable (he is 35" and 30lbs).

I am so excited for our trip but now I'm worried that either we take him and have him sleep in the playpen but he doesn't sleep well and is tired and grumpy the whole time.  Or we switch him out of the crib into a bed in the next few months and hope he transitions well and is sleeping in a big bed for the trip. I am also pretty sure he will give up napping once he is out of the crib.  He only has a 50 minute nap now and im sure it is because he is contained in the crib.  Otherwise he is always on the go and moving.  I don't think he will stay in the bed.  We did order his big boy furniture yesterday (there was a sale so we decided to get it now) and it will be here mid-may so he will have time to see it and get use to it for when we decide to kove him.

So, wwyd?

Re: wwyd: playpen vs big bed

  • I will do the playpen. He is not used to a big bed and will be getting up during the night even more when he gets that he has that freedom. We are going on vacation and I am borrowing a bigger playpen, where my dd, even taller at 36.5 inches fit. try a

  • I would do a bed, but we've had success with DD in them on her own before while on travel.  We travel with DD a lot.   In Oct we went to Disney.  She was 18 mo.  We stayed at a Disney resort and they had bed rails.  &

  • Both? If he doesn't sleep well the first night in the playpen, then put him in the bed. He might be so tired from travel and Mickey that he passes out anywhere.

  • When we go away, I usually sleep with DS in a big bed.  He seems to sleep better while on vacation sharing a bed with me.  He doesn't seem to like strange places to sleep anywhere.
  • When we travel, we put our DD in our bed between me and my DH.  She sleeps well that way.  The small cribs they provided were way too small for her.
  • I'd look into a rental crib unless you transition before September.

  • LO sleeps in beds while traveling all the time. Usually he's sharing the bed with me. Sometimes me and DH. But he always goes back to his crib.

Now, Disney sleep is probably going to suck. For my kid, I know a king bed with him between me and DH

  • What about getting him a cute disney sleeping bag for the trip? He could sleep on the floor or bed. He might be really excited to sleep in it while on vacation, at grandmas house, etc.

I would personally do the playpen/pnp, but I'm a huge advocate for keeping good sleepers in cribs if they're not climbing out. My D will be in her crib until she's three if she keeps sleeping the way she does and not even attempting to climb out.

  • We recently returned from a trip to Disney and we ended up renting a crib from BabieRus. https://www.babiesrustravelrental.com/ It was brand new and super clean.

    Crib rentals are popular d
