Parenting after a Loss

Can we talk about naps?

I don't think I am alone here (at least I hope) but Harry refuses to nap. I have tried everything and read pretty much every book I can on the subject - I spent the my maternity leave trying to get him to nap. If I do get him to sleep the second I try and put him down he wakes up. On the rare occasion he stays asleep that only lasts for 15 minutes.

Everything I have read says he should be taking 2-3 2 hour naps a day - Ha!!. He sleeps well at night, going down without a fight at 8:30 then waking up a 2 and then 5:30. Once in a blue moon he will miss the 2 feeding. I think he is a wonderful night sleeper regardless of him not napping so I have pretty much given up on him.

I guess I am not looking for advice on how to get him to nap, but maybe some encouragement/empathy that I am not alone?? He starts daycare next week and they promise me they can get him to nap and get him on a nap schedule, but we don't CIO and I told them that isn't acceptable to do at daycare so not to force him. I hope I am not setting him up for being a fussy daycare baby...

Anyone else's LO not nap and thrive in spite of it? Will this change as he gets older?

  • We are right there with you too!  He will do 20-30 minutes and then wake up.  We have tried everything (swaddle/no swaddle/RnP/crib/on us...evem on his belly...I know, I know, but we were dwsperate).  He did sleep for an hour on his bell

  • My kid has never been a good napper. 3040 mins was our avg at that age. I felt like I was constantly trying to get him down.

It's gotten sort of better. He now can put himself down and is down twice a day for about an hour.

  • Thanks ladies! I didn't figure I was alone. I heard it gets better as they get older, but my sister has a 3 year old who sleeps less than Harry!! Yikes!

He is usually in a good mood so I have chosen not to engage in this battle...
