Convince me for or against Jasper

Jasper has managed to make it into my top 6 boy name options, even though it has quite a different feel than my other choices, and I'm curious about people's impression in regard to this name.

What do you imagine someone with the name Jasper to be like?

Do you find it to be a trendy, modern feeling name, or something with more of a timeless feel to it?

What other thoughts and impressions do you have of this name?

In-depth responses are greatly appreciated, as I'm really reflecting deeply on whether this name deserves to remain in my top few options or whether it should be cut.

Re: Convince me for or against Jasper

  • I don't like it for a few reasons:

    -It reminds me of Twilight

-It reminds me of 101 Dalmations (I believe Cruella's sidekicks were Horace & Jasper)

-It just sounds harsh to me

  • It makes me think of a sweet little 3 year old with light brown hair and big blue eyes. A kid that loves to smile and give hugs, a kid that could sit and read books all day, a kid that is too helpful for his own good.

    Aka, jasper, my son.

  • I do not like Jasper.  It reminds me of a dog or a fictional character.  While it's an old name I do feel like it's trendy, due to Twilight.  It doesn't feel masculine to me.

  • My first association is with Grandpa Simpson's friend, but that's not necessarily bad, just random.  I probably wouldn't use it, but I certainly wouldn't side-eye it and I think it's more timeless than trendy.

  • I think Jasper is a handsome name - definitely timeless.  And it's not like one of those crazy names you can tell people just made up either (e.g. Blanket or Apple); it's actually a name.
