...PINK! I knew it!
Sonya Michelle was born at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, April 3rd, and we are already so much in love with her already. We've had some difficulties, starting with labor, so that's why I've been MIA on here.
Labor story following: it's long, so skip to the end for pictures if you don't want to read it.
My labor was long and difficult; my water broke at 12:45 P.M. on April 2nd. I had to have Pitocin because my water had broken, but I wasn't contracting on my own. I'd been hoping to go med-free because of my needle phobia, but once the Pitocin did its job and I had back-to-back contractions while still only at 3 cm, an epidural didn't sound nearly as scary (the nurses told the truth; getting the IV put in was so much worse than getting the epidural).
After the epidural was placed, I got a bad fever (100.5 or so) and got put on oxygen; I spent the whole night shaking with my mom and mother-in-law putting cool cloths on me. The hospital was super busy (laboring women were literally waiting in the halls), so when at around 10 or 11 AM, I felt the urge to push, a nurse came in, showed me how, and then left me and my husband to "practice."
I "practiced" for about an hour before my OB's partner came in (it was lunch time and she was the one on call, I guess) and after about another hour, I finally delivered.
The cord was wrapped around her neck, so instead of getting a baby on my chest immediately like I expected, I heard nothing and all the nurses were busy on the little crib. I had to send my husband over to find out her sex (since no one was answering my question of "Boy or girl?!"), and then, after I held her for about a minute, she was sent to NICU for observation. I was still terribly feverish, so after the doctor stitched up my episiotomy and got everything all cleaned up, I was left in the room to cool down. L&D was still super busy so getting nurses to come when I needed them was really tough, but when I got moved to a postpartum room, things got better. I wanted to see my baby so bad, but because I had a fever, I couldn't go in the NICU, but thankfully, since she was OK, she was brought to me that evening and hasn't left my side ever since.
TL;DR - my labor and delivery experience was pretty hellish, but it's all worth it to finally know and hold my baby girl. She's just too precious.
