Wisdom teeth

Anyone have their wisdom teeth removed while pregnant??? I'm having one removed next month and just want to know what kind of pain (and for how long) I'm in for since I won't be able to take the usual tylenol with codine. I would wait until after I deliver, but I'm only 14.5 weeks and in soooo much pain.

Re: Wisdom teeth

  • Depends on what your pain tolerance is now. If you've handled surgeries before with minimal medication then you'll probably glide through this extraction. Me... I am a Whimpy McWhimperson and I wouldnt dream of going through the procedure without the aide

  • Agree with all of the above. It hurts. BAD. and I have a very high pain tolerance but when it comes to my mouth, I wouldn't do it. It causes migraines and god forbid you get a dry socket.
  • It hurts, but I went through it using only Tylenol as I am allergic to most of the more potent painkillers. I lived. Granted, it hurt like a b*tch, but it was completely intolerable. What really helped was this thing they gave me - it was a velcro head

  • I puked for 3 days after the procedure so I wasn't able to keep any food or meds down. I really don't remember being in any extreme pain. Just a little sore. But then again I was probably not focus on pain since I was sick.
  • The pain afterward was manageable with ibuprofen for me. I was prescribed Vicodin but it made me really sick and drowsy, so I didn't take it. Both bottom teeth were impacted and I ended up with dry socket there as well. So it's doable without heavy duty m

  • I got mine out while I was pregnant with my first child, 6 wisdom teeth! At the time I was denying that I was pregnant so I was put to sleep and everything and given hydrocodone to take. I ended up puking up most of the pills and looked like a chipmunk fo

  • I've had two separate procedures to remove various wisdom teeth: once with local anesthesia and once as oral surgery with general anesthesia. Both times I was given prescription meds but I didn't take them and just took regular tylenol/motrin the first da

  • You can take Tylenol 3 (Tylenol with codeine) while pregnant. You are going to be in a lot of pain and to go at it with nothing is ridiculous to me. I was prescribed Vicodin with DS as I had some pretty severe rib pain thanks to him being buried in there.
  • I didn't have mine taken out while pregnant, but I did have them pulled last year.  Mine was a basic pulling out at my regular dentist based on how they were shaped and their placement.  I didn't have to have any kind of anesthesia. &nbs

  • I think it depends on how they are going to do the procedure as well. Mine were impacted and I had to be put to sleep. I was on percocet afterwards and it rather sucked. I couldn't imagine doing that with no pain medication.

  • I got one out awake, and then three out asleep.

The one I got done while I was awake I was doing my regular routine the very next day, and didn't need the T3's. Not a big deal, the procedure sucked.. the needles they give you to freeze you are a

  • Is your tooth impacted under the gums still or is it visible?  If it's already through the gums and visible, the procedure will not be as bad.  They will numb you during the pulling, and you should be able to take some mild pain medications a

  • You can take Tylenol with codeine.  Our high risk OB was going to write me a prescription at one point, but I ended up not needing it.  I hope the tooth extraction isn't horrible for you.

  • When I had mine out, what actually helped more than the pain meds they gave me was heat (NOT ICE, at least after the first 24 hours or so), and eating an extremely high calorie soft diet (think ice cream and cheesecake).  My doctor's specific instruc

  • Thanks everyone. I'm not 100% sure about placement and whether or not it's impacted. part of it is definitely through the gums though, just not sure about the whole thing and what not. We just got my dental coverage all figured out today and it will ki

  • Definitely depends on your pain tolerance. I  am also a wimp. All four of mine were taking out a good 10 years ago but I remember it hurt. I think I had vicodin or something similar. It started to ease up around day 3 or 4 though. Since you are on
