Rolling over in crib

Recently my son started rolling over on his stomach and has been doing this almost every time he is placed in his crib to sleep, or when he wakes up from sleeping he will roll over. It definitely has me anxious, because he hasn't figured out how to roll back yet, and his feet get stuck between the crib slots 70% of the time. Plus he started rolling to his side to sleep when I place him on his back. He likes this position because it is easier for him to suck his thumb. Today i found him sleeping on his stomach. What do you mamas do? I turned him back over but it woke him up and he didn't fall back to sleep unfortunately for me :(

Re: Rolling over in crib

  • my mom, who is the sids educator at the hospital she works at says ' as longas they can roll onto their stomachs and as long as you put them on their backs, it is fine'

so dont just put him on his tummy for bed, but you don't have to worry ab

  • DS has been a side sleeper since he was ~2 months old.  At that age, he never rolled completely over and we let him sleep that way. He has been rolling to his tummy in the crib for about 2 months now and even though I was super nervous at first, we j

  • Yeah unfortunately once they can roll, there is very little you can do about their sleeping positions. No matter how you lay them down they will end up moving whichever way they feel most comfortable, just like any other person. My son moves a ton thro

  • I understand your concern - DS rolled back to tummy the day before he turned 4 months, and he still doesn't know how to roll tummy to back even now (he's almost 5 months).  The first week after he rolled over, I didn't sleep too well.  We wer

  • Thank you all for the reassurance, I was just worried because when I found him sleeping on his tummy his nose was so close to the mattress.

DS just learned how to roll from back to tummy yesterday (I still haven't managed to actually see him do it, he's like a ninja), but he's been scooting himself around on his back for weeks.  He wears a sleep sack at night and so far he hasn't had any

  • I agree with PP. Once they start rolling, unless you hover over their crib and keep rolling them back, it's a lost cause. My pedi said it was fine if he rolled over on his own. I imagine if his foot gets stuck in the slots he'll yelp for you. I know my li
