Playing in room after being put to bed?

We just switched DD to her big girl bed 3 weeks ago.  She's slowly discovered she can get off her bed and do things and we won't go in and say anything.  the last few days, she's been playing in her room for 2 hours before she finally starts to get sleepy.  Sometimes she only naps 30 min. before I have to wake her up.  I said this to my mom and she said I have to change that immediately!  I figure that she's reading and playing quitely and it's still new for her.  It's just a phase and at some point the novelty will wear off.

Do I need to change this?  Take the toys/books out of her room?  She doesn't even destroy things....just reads to her stuffed animals and dresses them in her pj's.  How do you do it?

  • If she doesn't seem overtired there's no reason to stop her from playing independently! Both of my girls were done napping by around that age. If she's quietly reading books or playing nicely I can't see a problem!

  • I took out most toys when we switched out of the crib.  I did leave books and stuffed animals though.  I don't mine them playing with those while getting sleep.  You might want to try taking out some of the items or putting them in the clos

  • Yes, this happens for both nap and bed time.  She was a consistent napper and still needs a nap every day.  When she was in the crib, she would play for a hour at most and then fall asleep.  I know if I took out some of the stuffed anima
