Induction of VBAC vs Repeat C-Sec

Ok, I'm at 41 weeks, with no end in sight.  My doctor is ok with performing some induction techniques and will let me go to 42 weeks.  However I would like to know what the real risks are once I start adding drugs like pitocin and cervadil in the mix vs a repeat c-sec, as I know that the various induction methods do increase risk.  Does anyone have any good places to check out to start my research, so that I can be informed for the decision making process.   I remember reading a few earlier on in the pregnancy, but the numbers have all evaporated from my brain over the past couple months, and I would like to refresh my memory.

  • I don't have specific websites right now either but I do know that cervidil and any other cervical ripener are not recommended for vbac's as they increase the risk of rupture. I would hope you wouldn't find any provider recommending them.

  • This woman posts a ton about VBAC research, etc. She has some good posts, and you can email her, too. She has a FB group as well that might help.

  • Lucky your docs are willing to induce! My docs are pretty liberal about VBAC- even willing to VBA2C, but no inductions for them. Good luck!

  • I'm 40+2, and my doctor said the same thing about the importance of a favorable cervix. If the cervix isn't ripe, then he will recommend RCS. I'm hoping for good news at my appointment tomorrow!

  • I was induced with pit. You can't do cervadil with a VBAC.  There is a very slight increase in risk with the pit but I was at the hospital at that point being monitored and was comfortable with that.  I had a successful VBAC with no issues.
