Finally, She's Here!

Maisy Raye Harding arrived on Good Friday at 9:28 pm, weighing in at 6 lbs 12.7 oz and 19 and a quarter inches long!

I was induced on Wednesday and after 40 hours of attempting to have a med free delivery, I'd still only dilated to a 2... Even after my water had been broken, my cervix of steel wasn't budging. My Dr. said that my body was too exhausted and couldn't relax to open up during the intense pitocin and cervidil contractions. She knew how much I wanted the natural med free delivery and let me go for the 40 hours before she finally said that I really needed to try an epidural to see if it would help me to progress. Thankfully, Maisy's heart rate had stayed perfect the entire time I'd been laboring or else Dr never would have allowed me to try so long. I'm proud to say that I gave it all I had and that's the best I could do. After almost two straight days without sleep, I was delirious and exhausted anyway and welcomed some relief.

The epidural was administered at around 2 pm on Friday and I immediately started making progress. Maisy was born about 7 and a half hours later, and the epidural allowed me to get a 2 hour nap in before it was time to push. That was the best sleep of my entire life!

My doctor had warned me that first time mothers usually pushed longer and it might actually take a couple hours of pushing. I think God thought I deserved a reward for having endured such a long labor process because pushing was a breeze! In 2 contractions, I pushed her out with only 6 good pushes! From the time I started pushing until she was born, it was actually less than 10 minutes! : Also I had no tearing at all, just a couple of "skid marks" on the inside.

I was able to pull her out and up onto my chest. Hearing her cry was the most beautiful sound I'd ever heard! She's perfect and scored perfectly on the apgar. Maisy has taken right to breast feeding and is doing great. We will be released tomorrow and I'll take home the greatest Easter gift ever!

I'll post pics as soon as I can. I can't wait to show you all the little girl who's already completely taken my breath away and stolen my heart forever...

I'm sorry it took me so long to post this, but it's been a long journey and I'm finally feeling more rested. Thank you for the many kind words and prayers! I'm completely smitten and everything is wonderful!
