First off, please don't think that I am ungrateful for my job. I am very thankful that I have a job that offers benefits and is relatively secure.
So, I have a been a nurse for 4 years and our hospital hasn't given raises the past 3 years. I found out today that our boss is giving raises to a few people and she made a spreadsheet. They said she will be contacting the people individually if they got a raise. I have been very hopeful all day today that I might possibly be one of the lucky ones for many reasons.
The main reason is because I have been a nurse for 4 years and I am still basically getting paid what a brand new, out of school nurse makes. If I didn't go above the call of duty and get extra certifications/training then I would be a new nurse pay...which is not much AT ALL. Plus, with fertility treatments, a house and two car payments, we barely have our heads above water. I know that these expenses are of no concern to my boss, but I would hope that she would see that my salary is way below what it should be for my experience. But, of course, she never called or pulled me aside today. I saw her many times and she had many opportunities to pull me aside and tell me I got a raise, but she didn't.
She did, however, tell another nurse that she was chosen to get a raise. This frustrates me to high heaven because this particular nurse does not do direct patient care. We work on an acute psychiatric unit so my job is not exactly safe. This particular nurse not only doesn't do direct patient care but she really has no real job. They created a job for her so she could still work there. I think she does scheduling or something. I know I probably sound like a spoiled brat but I am so frustrated!! With the extra taxes the government has taken out of my check, I am tired of pay for other people's livelihood when I am struggling to pay my own!!
Ugh, Vent over! Sorry for the Novel!! Please share your own work frustrations so I don't feel so whiny! hehe!
Update: I did get a raise! Thank you everyone for your wonderful advice! I took her aside and asked her if she will be letting us know whether we will be getting a raise or not. She said that she was just about to come get me and so I went into her office! I am so happy that she recognized that my pay was below what it should be! Thank you ladies and I am sorry for your work frustrations as well!! I am going to keep the gif because it's cute = )

I'm a nurse too, and I definitely feel your pain...I love the hospital I work for, but we are the lowest paid in the area. I would definitely go speak with your boss and discuss your raise.

I'm sorry it appears you didn't get a raise. They should have talked to each of you if you got a raise or not as an annual review so that it's based on performance and laid out why you were or were not part of it...not just a pick and choose.
