mady's pedi has opened up another gateway for her to try more food.
by next week i will be starting to give mady cheese, yogurt & cottage cheese.
what brands and flavors did you give your kids?
i know she said to start with yobaby for the yogurt. but what about cheese? do i just give her cubed cheese like we would eat, does it matter the brand or flavor (like kraft or cheddar)? as for cottage cheese did you guys mix it with fruit to give like for breakfast?
on weekends i make pancakes for mady (mixed with formula since she can't do milk yet) and i was hoping to add variation to it by adding cottage cheese to her diet.
thanks girls!
Re: cheese, yogurt & cottage cheese
YoBaby yogurt. I started with the Vanilla and Banana package. Then after a few weeks I started getting the others - apple / blueberry and peach / pear. I make pancakes with regular milk - it's not going to hurt her - the reason for the formula is b/c of all the nutrients in it that milk doesn't have but milk is not harmful as an ingredient. Cheese and yogurt all have whole milk in them.
As for cheese - I buy swiss, mild cheddar, or the mix of jack and cheddar all shredded those are the easiest for Alexis to eat. I also give her slices of American Cheese ans I just break off little pieces. She loves cheese.
I actually haven't tried cottage cheese mainly b/c I don't like it
but maybe I will. I want to see what suggestions you get for that.
My pedi suggested just buying a tub of Plain Yogurt and adding my own fruit into it, it's cheaper and the same thing as Yo baby. but I've bought Yo Baby also out of convenience for when we're out and i have to feed her lunch.
Any kind of cheese is fine. I have been toasting a piece of bread with cheese on top and then cutting into little squares for her to pickup, kind of a baby version of grilled cheese.
I also haven;t tried cottage cheese yet just cause she's gonna want to feed it to herself and it's gonna be SO messy!
As for pancakes, you can give her regular pancakes. I just buy the Eggo mini's. The small amount of milk and egg in there won't do anything.
When we first started we started with YoBaby but dude that stuff is pricey!!!! I then would get a tub of the Stoneyfield yogurt and mix my own fruit in it, but that became a pain too because Publix didn't always have the whole milk one. Now I just give him the regular kids yogurt. I think he's getting the Yoplait ones now that has Dora or Diego on them. He likes it just fine. Its lowfat now but its ok because he gets whole milk in other ways.
As for cheese give her anything she'll try. I have yet to give Mikey cottage cheese because like Leanna I don't eat it.
Ditto Melanie about the panakes. It's totally fine to give her the eggo mini's.
ohhh i'm loving this hint!!! i'm all about saving money! i no longer waste $ on baby applesauce...i buy the big jars of applesauce and just make sure that it contains no sugar or added preservatives!
I buy the Publix organic applesauce - I don't buy the baby stuff either.
Oh and yes frozen pancakes - awesome!!
I also give Alexis cinnamon toast with a little butter in the morning - she loves it.
