We found out baby Gwen was "oblique" when I was 39 weeks. She was head down, but lying diagonally and her head was not engaged in my pelvis. My Dr said a c-section was the only way. I was initially upset about having a c-section, since I've delivered vaginally twice before with no problems. But, of course, the safe arrival of my baby was the most important thing.
The c-section itself was pretty awful, truth be told. The spinal anesthesia made my blood pressure immediately drop 40 points, so they gave me a shot of something to correct it which made my blood pressure sky-rocket. I felt extremely woozy/nauseated and was having a hard time being mentally "there". They pulled Gwendolyn out, but I was having such a hard time staying conscious I could barely focus on what was happening.
I spent the whole first day throwing up and going in and out of consciousness, which seriously bummed me out. I felt like I missed out on her whole birth/first day. Recovering from a c-section has been rough for me (I developed a UTI and kidney infection from having a catheter), but it has been a week and I am finally starting to feel better.
We are totally smitten with Gwendolyn, and she has been a dream-baby. Champion nurser and actually sleeps at night
We are so blessed!
