I am expecting my first pretty soon now and hit a bit of a roadblock with a positive GBS test. I have since learned that you can cheat the test, but my midwife won't let me re-test, so now I'm stuck.
My real dilemma is that I don't want the antibiotics you normally get during delivery. I know that the risk of the baby getting it, although small, has serious consequences, so I feel like I should do something, but destroying my gut flora and the baby's (and quite possibly ending up with thrush) sounds incredibly stupid to me and I don't want to do that. I have read about vaginal chlorhexidine (Hibiclens), but a Cochrane review (though a bit old, from 2008) says there is "not enough evidence" to conclude that it reduces the risk of GBS transmission. Does anyone know of any newer studies on chlorhexidine or have any other alternatives to antibiotics to suggest to me?

I haven't heard lately that hibiclens is not effective. That's the route I'd take if I test for GBS (I actually decline that test because the risk is small, I've done my research).

A37licia, I was just coming here to post a link to a Cochrane review published in January 2013 about intrapartum antibiotics for GBS+ women: <a href="https://summaries.cochrane.org/CD007467/intrapartum-antibiotics-for-known-maternal-group-b-strep

I was discussing this with my MWs. They offer that you can do nothing but then after 12 of water being broken, they would recommend a transfer; Vaginal wash, or oral antibiotics at the start of labor.
