How does your baby spend awake time?

What do you usually do with him/her when awake? My little guy is very alert for good chunks of time during the day and i am always worried that if I do the wrong thing, it will start a fuss-fest (which typically happens as he starts to get tired, but doesn't know how to self-soothe yet).

He usually just looks around, watching things. Sometimes he prefers to sit up when he's doing it. Really, he's so young he doesn't require a lot of interaction yet.

I put some bold patterned things, like nursing cover I have or some of her toys, within her line of vision. She stares at those until she gets tired and needs to be soothed a little. If I don't have anything to do and can spend time cuddling, I cradle her

Sometimes I hold him and talk to him, sometimes he's just in his bouncy seat looking around, and yesterday I started putting him on his play mat for a bit both back and tummy.
