Options..advice please

My dd is today.  Just left the dr's office.  Baby has not dropped and I am still one cm.  He gave us a few options.  He said we could induce Sunday night but would start out with cervadil and then pitocin if I progress.  He does not feel that we will have a high success rate. Also he is going away Saturday so he would not be delivering.  He said that due to my size, he feels that we may just end up having a c section any way and he is not confident in a vaginal delivery.

Other option is schedule a c section for Thursday.  He said that he does not have a case to induce me sooner than Sunday.  My blood pressure is fine, baby is fine, fluid is fine.  However, he said he does have a case for a section because of my size and the fact that baby is still so high.  I'm so torn.  I want to meet my little guy, and I want my dr. to be delivering.  But I don't want to make the selfish decision if I am can deliver naturally.   What would you all do?

  • I would at least try for the cervadil first. At least you tried, and then there are no "what if" regrets.
The doctor delivering is only a small part of the entire birthing process.

  • Given those 2 choices, I would wait till Sunday for the induction. I'd rather take a chance for a vaginal delivery with the induction meds over a definite c-section.

But personally I wouldn't even push for an induction if there's no medical reas

  • Can you wait until he gets back? Many Drs will let women go 42 weeks before intervention. I always think allowing things to happen naturally is the way to go. I've heard a lot of induction stories where the cervix wasn't ready and they ended in c-section.
  • I didn't have a growth scan- Just a regular sonogram.  Baby is measuring about 7 lbs.  Dr's concern is that I am too small for that in general.  I didn't ask him about waiting until he came back.  I didn't think of that. &nbs

  • He said it doesn't have anything to do with height and weight. I'm  4'11 and usually around 90-95.  He said it's pelvis size.  I'm just scared to have an induction with another dr other than him and then end up w a section anyway  <

  • It's not so much about size as in "Oh I'm petite" but about the size of your pelvic opening.

My friend tried to push a 7lbs baby out of her 5'3 100lbs (pre-pregnancy) body for 12 hours until her doctor stopped everything and sent her for an emerg

  • I was really hoping to have a vaginal birth. Due to a marginal placenta previa & high blood pressure, my doctor went ahead & scheduled a c-section.  Although I was disappointed to not have the experience of a vaginal birth, I have no regrets

  • That's a tough choice! I was induced due to high BP and low amniotic fluid and I started with cervidil and then pitocin and it was a long process! I went in Feb 28 at noon.. got the cervidil at 2pm... that has to be in for 12 hours, so they removed it at

  • I would definitely try an induction before jumping to a section. My DS1 was a success story after cervidil and pitocin with no progress before hand.

    Good luck!

  • I was induced starting with the cervadil and then pitocin at 41w3d and was completely closed and posterior. I knew my risk of csection was higher, but was hopeful. I ended up dilating to a 1 on the cervadil. Once on the pitocin, I ended up dilating fro

  • It is all about pelvic structure, size and LOs position. My 8 lb 12oz girl got stuck in my pelvis after 26 hours of labor she wouldn't descend past 0 station ...when I pushed her head would skim 1...but it was like that for over 8 hours. I ended up with a

  • Thanks ladies.  I appreciate all the input!  Hearing all your stories is quite helpful.

  • cervadil. why have major surgery because he has a "feeling" f that! I know you want to meet him but it seems silly to opt for a csection.
  • As someone who still can't bend over after her c section last Wednesday, I would say try for the induction. I've started this process out already feeling like a bad mom because I couldn't do much of anything for myself.

  • Personally I would take the c section. I had 2 inductions in a row with no cervical progress for a total of 43 hours of verypainful labor that drained me physically and emotionally. I ended up with a c section and that was the only good experience I had t

  • Thanks so much for all the input ladies.  I spoke with my doctor again last night and today.  We have scheduled a c section for tomorrow at noon.  I think it's better to opt for the more controlled environment.  (Even though I am not t
