When should I start tummy time?

Hello! my baby was three weeks on friday and I was just wondering when I am suppose to start tummy time.  Some things have said right away, and others have said 1 month all the way up until not starting until 3 months.

  • The nurses at the hospital and DS's pediatrician told me to start it immediately. I've also recently read that any time baby spends on you in "prone position" counts as tummy time as well.

  • I was told right away as well, but just for like 2-3 minutes at a time when they are super small. The time your LO spends against your or your DH's chest counts too, which helps at the beginning.

  • We waited with DS until 1 month and he haaaated tummy time.  I'm gonna start earlier this time around in hopes that she'll tolerate it a little more.

  • We were told immediately for 30 minutes per day. But he sleeps on our chest mostly through the day so that's his tummy time :)
