DD constantly talking about a sibling that doesn't exist

Hey there! I was hoping to either get some advice or hear from others if you have experienced the same.  My DD just turned three but for the past two or three months has been talking about a brother or sister that doesn't exist all the time. Sometimes just in casual conversation or she will say that pretty soon she will have a brother, etc.  I'm not quite sure the best way to respond to this.  Advice or thoughts?

Thank you!

Side note:  We are not trying to conceive right now because I am finishing graduate school.  The plan is possibly to start in July or August but we don't talk about that in front of her because we don't want to confuse her.

Re: DD constantly talking about a sibling that doesn't exist

  • I would say it is the normal imaginary friend.  DS1 had an entire racing team.

DD1 just turned 3 and she often talks about having a brother, but she

  • DD talks about her "Bruder". I don't think she understands what it actually means.

  • She probably hears it at daycare or somewhere. Maybe even tv. I wouldn't worry about it.
  • Thank you everyone for the feedback.  I think you are right about it her giving us a signal but it is probably partially due to the fact of friends/family members with siblings or babies.  I guess we will just role with it for now.  Thanks

  • My little girl talks about a "brother" all the time and we just have two little girls. It's usually in reference to a stuffed animal or a baby doll. I think it's normal. They probably don't fully understand the familial relationships at this point so i

  • DD1s bff just got a baby sister so now DD2 asks pretty much everyday when her baby is getting here (and we're not even TTC).  As far as crazy stories, since DD1 has started preschool, DD2 talks constantly about her school.  She will tell us a
