So I know this is kind of nosy but I just have no concept really of what you should spend on a birthday party. Now this is DS's first and I am admittedly going all out because I want it to be special (yeah, yeah, I know he won't remember it, but I will, and there will be lots of pictures for him to see someday). But I just have no concept of what people typically spend on these things. I work F/T and am not very crafty so pretty much everything is being purchased either through Etsy, party store, etc. So far we haven't ordered/purchased food yet and we haven't gotten like the plates/plastic silverware/paper tablecloths aspect and we've spent like $300+. Normal? High?

Re: Curious about $$ spent on birthday parties
I think a lot depends on how many people you are having. I know we'll probably have ~40+. Our families alone amount to close to that, and I'll invite a few friends of mine who have babies' similar in age to DS. I expect to spend ~$500
Thanks ladies! I guess it all depends, huh? We are having about 35 people. Party is in late April in the midwest so it could be GORGEOUS or it could be snowing. It's 30 degrees here today so I don't have high hopes.

For her first b-day we just had my parents and our neighbors who have a kid her age. All I did was a cake that I made, ice cream, invites, a happy birthday sign and a few bags of munchies.
This year I hosted a small party at the local soft play

We had 2 parties (to address family scheduling issues). Decorations that we used for both, and 4 cakes (2 smash, 2 for eating) probably cost $200.
Food to feed the guests (pizza, chips and dip, soda) porbably ran $200 more.

I probably spent too much
I felt it was a celebration for DH and I and the loved ones that have been there for us with our losses and our struggles getting pg. And also for all those that had shared DD's 1st year with us and watched her

We aren't having a party for DD. My DH wasn't there when she was born so I want her 1st birthday to be a special day with just us 3. Plus we live 14 hours from friends/family so no one is around to protest about the no party situation.
