Jumping the gun but curious Solids Question

So I know we are a couple months out on this but insomnia has me reading about development with infants.

For STMs, when did you introduce solids? If you waited longer than recommended, why? Did you go off ped recommendation or signs baby was ready? Also was it just cereal at first and if so, how long until other foods such as veggies and fruit?

I am just curious as ever thing you read says something different and not trying to start a debate. Just a really curious question.

Re: Jumping the gun but curious Solids Question

  • DS had reflux so we started solids at 4 months to try to help him keep things down. We began with veggies and he tolerated it well.
  • Loading the player...
  • We did rice cereal around 6.5 months for about a month, more so he could get used to swallowing and because you can control the thickness/texture of it.  Then we moved on to pureed foods.  i just made my own.  I'm not sure if I will go t

  • We started at 6 months with sweet potatoes. We skipped any sort of rice cereal and let him practice texture with real foods, which worked fine for us.

  • ETA that the sweet potatoes were pureed. After a few days to judge any allergic reaction, we'd move on to a new food. I think mashed up avocado or banana was next.

  • We got the ok from the pedi at DD1s 4 month appt, but didn't start until a little after 6 months, when she was showing signs of being interested.  We started with baby oatmeal cereal, then pur?ed veggies, then fruit. We started adding "real" food aro

  • We started around 6 months because we always had a tough time getting DD to finish bottles, and didn't want to give her another reason not to.

We started with oatmeal because the rice cereal has no nutritional value. Then we moved onto veggi
  • With DD we started BLW when she was 6 months WHO recommend 6 months and sitting up. We'll do the same with DS.

  • I delay until 12 months.  Nothing but BM until then.

My reasons are because DS1 has bad food allergies and some studies say that delaying solids can decrease the risk of developing them.  I don't want my other children to have to deal w

  • DS1... cereal mixed with BM at 12 weeks for reflux reasons. Started fruits and veggies at 6mo. Can't remember what was first, but early choices were banana, carrots, sweet potato, and prunes.

DD... avocado at 5 months when she grabbed a chu

  • We started to try around 5 months with DS1 but he really wasn't interested until 7 months. With DS2, I'm not starting until 6 months at earliest unless he is showing strong cues.

  • Thanks so much ladies! I was just curious as most peds, from what I understand, recommend at least introducing (not using as bottle sub) at 4 months but the AAP says 6 months due to allergy and tongue thrust relflex.   Then parenting books say to

  • We did not introduce the high chair or spoon early. DD could sit unassisted by 5mo, so we knew the high chair would be no problem, and she fed the avocado to herself using her hands. Whenever we first used a spoon, we put whatever we were offering on it

  • What exactly is BLW? I know it stands for baby lead weaning but is it just as they ask for it, they get it etc or is there more to it?
