BLW

I'm reading the book and I'm very interested in using BLW when we start solids. Tell me what you know about it. If you did it what did you introduce first and how old was LO? How did you know BLW was or wasn't right for your LO? I'm interested in hearing actual experiences from real parents. Also, what did your pedi say?

TIA!

Re: BLW

  • I don't have time for a long post, but we started at 5.5 months, when she started reaching for food.

We loved it.  It was so easy and made sense.

No matter how you choose to introduce solids, I'd recommend taking a CPR/first aid course

  • We were introduced by BLW from friends with a baby 6 months older than ours. He was eating table food with us at a restaurant at 7 months while his parents happily ate their meals and we realized that we wanted to do the same.

  • I started at about 5.5 months, but DS didn't really eat for a few weeks after that. I think I started with sweet potato fries? It doesn't matter. The harder you work on the meal, the less likely baby will eat it.

BLW is right for me because I'm l

  • Thanks for your responses! I signed up for a first aid/cpr class to brush up on my skills and will continue my research to make sure BLW is right for us!

  • Ds hates mush and spoons, so blw made sense to us. We started a week before he turned 6 months, and he's just now starting to really "eat". We started with avocado, and he didn't like it. Still doesn't. So we tried a cooked carrot, and he loved it. <br /

  • I should add... I spoke to a dietician about it.  She loved the idea of self-feeding.  She said that she sees so many kids who refuse to eat certain textures because the puree stage went too long.  We started with soft things like sweet pot

  • We started a week shy of 6 months when she started stealing the food I was trying to eat. It has been amazing and makes life much easier. We get to have a family meal every breakfast/lunch/dinner and no one has to let their food get cold to feed her.&n

  • We started with DD1 when she was right around 6 months and she did great. I made sure that we didn't have any chocking hazards--for instance I gave her very ripe avocado slices, steamed all veggies--all things that she could gum and we never had the sl

  • We did a mix of table foods and purees from 6 months on.  Table foods things like avocados, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, yogurt, steamed veg.  Anything she could pick up and put in her mouth if she wanted to.

  • We started around 6 months with mostly roasted root veggies, banana, and avocado.  It makes more sense to me than spoon feeding and seems a more natural/gradual transition to food from nursing.  I have a post on my experience in my blog in siggy
  • We just started at 6m- last week! We waited until 6 months in part because I wanted to EBF for six months and in part because I wanted to make sure he was sitting well and that he had the motor skills to not be frustrated by the experience.

  • I first heard about BLWing while reading Real Food For Mother and Baby before getting pregnant with DD. It just seemed natural to me so I filed away in the back of my mind for later. I did some more research when it was closer to applying to us. Honest
