Question about nap schedules

If your LO is on a nap schedule and doesn't nap at all during their scheduled time, will you let them nap later on or keep them up? We are trying to get DS used to 1 nap per day around noon, since that is when they have naptime at daycare, which he will be starting once he turns one in a month, where did the time go?!. His bedtime time is 830. The past few days he hasn't wanted to nap when we put him down and then is exhausted by 4 or 5pm and ends up falling asleep then, but then isn't tired for bed until very late. When he skips his mid day nap, should we be keeping him awake until bedtime even though he so desperately needs a little nap? Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Question about nap schedules

  • One is young for some kids to got to one nap everyday. My Nathan was almost two before he was good with one nap.

So my answer would be yes if lo needs a nap I'd let them have it.

  • As PP said, this is a little early to condense to one nap.  Two naps is pretty standard for this age.

I usually do a 45 minute in the late morning and a 1-2 hour in the late afternoon.

Daycare (in home) says that their schedule is a na

  • Ditto two naps.  My LO still takes two naps a day.  One about 2 hours from waking in the morning and then another early to mid afternoon.  If he is overtired, it will just make a cranky baby and then harder to get him to settle when you wan

  • DD is 10 1/2 months old, when she's at home she takes 2 naps... 10:30ish and 2:30ish.  I follow her cues but she definitely needs 2 naps.  Her bedtime is 8pm and as long as she's awake by 6pm she's ready for bed at 8pm.  At daycare she only

  • Awe we face something similar from time to time that late in the day catnap if something went amiss earlier in the. My philosophy is good sleep begets good sleep, so we let her have a nap but I make sure she is up at 6:30 or that the nap is only 30 minute
