FYI about FMLA paperwork

It may just be the employers that I've worked for while pregnant, but remember to ask HR what paperwork you need to fill out for FMLA before you go into labor. A lot of times, there is a form that your doctor needs to fill out regarding your medical condition and how long you should be out of work. Its just easier to bring that with you to the hospital than trying to get it filled out when you're at home trying to heal and take care of a newborn.

Just my $.02!

Re: FYI about FMLA paperwork

  • Another 2 cents....my doctor has a sign in his office saying that he requires 2 weeks to fill out STD/FMLA paperwork, so go ahead and get it done ahead of time. My short term disability won't pay until the paperwork is in and yours probably won't either.

  • Thanks for the reminder! I've been meaning to print it all out and fill it out for a couple of weeks now.

  • And if your husband/significant other will be using FMLA, your OB will need to fill out paperwork for him, as well.

Also, some OBs charge an "administrative fee" to complete the paperwork so be aware of that. $10 at mine.
