I can't believe it has already been a month! It was the longest and at the same time fastest month ever. I have been having a harder and harder time the longer Cilla is in the NICU it seems. I'm sure my postpartum hormones are contributing but this emotional roller coaster is awful. It's hard to really feel like her mother when I have to ask them to take her out of the isolette to hold her and to let them know that I would like to change her diaper.
Anyway, the indocin they gave her juuusst about closed her PDA. The echo tech said she almost was going to say it was closed because it is so small. They also found she has a very tiny VSD. The neonatologist said it is so common in preemies and hers is considered "trivial" because it is so small. So that's good. She is still on the cpap, which is one of my biggest stresses. The neo says her lungs seem to be ok but her air passages are small and she has trouble getting air in which is why she is still requiring the air pressure of the cpap but not needing any oxygen support. We pretty much just have to let her grow bigger to get the cpap off.....patience is not something I am good with, especially when it comes to my baby. Priscilla is also anemic (another common preemie problem) but her lab work shows her body is making new blood cells, its just a matter of whether she can make it fast enough. They will recheck her blood counts on Tuesday and decide whether or not to give her blood based on those numbers and her symptoms (right now she is only mildly symptomatic). She is also having issues with reflux, which is yet another preemie issue. She is being fed through the feeding tube almost constantly because they have to feed her so slowly due to heart rate drops from reflux. The bradys are one of the scariest things to me and unfortunately they are something she just has to outgrow (preemies out grow this issue around the time they become full term).
She has made some progress though. She weighs 4 lbs now, which is a huge milestone and she is gaining weight steadily. She looks bigger to me now and much more like a baby and less like a little fetus haha. She is on full feeds and despite the reflux, she is tolerating the amount well. She was requiring suppositories to poop on her own but now no longer needs them. I have been exploded on a few times and had to change her diaper multiple times in a row.
We still have a long ways to go but she is growing and looks good. Thank you all once again for all your support. You ladies have been amazing!!
This picture is from yesterday......It's one of my new favorites of her

It is so wonderful that she is doing so well. Being patient is obviously a challenge, but whenever you need the strength, remember we're here for you!
