Natural Birth

XP: GD & Induction

I need a little guidance. I know my Dr wants to induce at 40 weeks if I have not gone into labor prior to then. When I was 1st diagnosed with GD, I didn't see a problem with it & went along with her suggestions. However, in the past few weeks, I have really been doing my research etc. I actually signed up for the Holistic Program through my hospital & want to go as natural as possible. I do not want Pitocin. Now, I know she cannot make me, but at my next appt Mon, she will be discussing the plans, so I really need to figure out what I am conformable with & be ready to discuss what I am ok/not ok with etc.

My baby is on the bigger side (estimated obv) but I think the reason she wants to induce is because she said studies show there is a higher mortality rate in babies who go longer than 40 weeks (with GD moms) How do I argue with this?

My last check on Mon showed cervix high & closed & only a little bit of softening, so not much progress (I am using evening primrose oil & red raspberry leaf tea right now to try & help a little) but it doesn't seem like I will have too much progress between now & Mon. I do get weekly NST & BPP & he passes perfectly every time, so I feel like if I am getting properly monitored, there are no issues with the placenta, fluid, etc., shouldn't I be able to go over my due date by a bit? What would you do? Suggest? Thank you!

  • Try acupressure.  I've heard nothing but good things regarding acupressure and starting labor.

Also is this your first?  I feel I read or had a MW tell me the typical ftm gestates till 41 weeks.

Ultimately I think the baby is bi

  • She isnt even saying because of size. She is trying to say its because there is a higher stillborn rate for GD moms who go over 40 weeks. I am trying to research this..

  • I don't think there's any way to say what I would do in this situation because there is so much information that we don't have, how is your GD being managed (pills, diet), how has it been controlled so far, how big is 'big' etc. just to name a few. &nb

  • I don't know a ton about GD, but I think if it's diet controlled, you have more of an option of saying no to an induction. Can you pish it back even a few days with regular monitoring? I would give her a plan like that when you talk to her. Suspected macr

  • I'd say do your research on her claim about mortality in GD babies beyond 40w and arm yourself with knowledge and make a decision about what you're ok with.

Inductions at 40w for first time moms...so many women go after their edd and as a result

  • I had GD with both my pregnancies (didn't get a screen the first time, but DD was 9lb 3oz, so most likely had it) and my midwife was fine with letting me go past 40 weeks. I controlled it with diet too, and my LO was only 8lb even. I used accupressure a w
  • I was in a similar situation. We went about a week over...did the foley bulb the night before and low dose pitocin all morning (so low I didn't feel the mini contractions). They slowly ramped it up and broke my water in the afternoon. Had no pain meds

  • GD makes me nervous. I had it with my first pregnancy and I did a lot of research. It's really not something to mess around with, no matter how well it's managed. I didn't read all the comments, but I'll ask anyway. Are you having NST's? BPP's? Anything t
