  I don't think it's an issue. I think it was invented as an alternative to vegetable oil (CANadian OiL Alternative).

  I read you can substitute applesauce for veg. oil too. I don't know the ratio though.

  I've heard of applesauce before too but I've never tried it. I think that's how our wedding cake was made actually haha. I'm off to make some cake pops!

  I use coconut oil for some baking as well.  Depending on which flavor you're going to use, coconut oil is a great substitute instead of veggie or canola oil.

  You can actually omit the oil all together in a boxed cake mix. I never add it and never have a problem with taste/texture.
