38 Week Appointment

So, I just had my 38 week dr appointment and I feel so annoyed!

The doctor said he could feel babies head already, but I have absolutely no dialation! I thought for sure I would be AT LEAST 1 cm, but nothing!

I know it doesn't mean much as far as when labor will or won't start, but of course I'm going to be hoping for something!

My mom and sister both had their first babies at 38 weeks, and while I know everyone is different, it still makes me feel disappointed :

Dr said she is acting like the first baby that she is, but I really don't want to have to go past my due date and get induced and increase my chance of a csection. Plus, I wanted to do it natural... No epidural, nothing.

I feel my hopes crumbling down around me! Time to start some old wives tale labor starters!

    I'm actually shocked at the number of people on here who are dilated a bunch prior to going into labor.  I never dilated until I was in labor and so far I'm not dilated this time either.  Don't let it bother you.  I literally was not dilate

    When my dr tried to reassure me that his head was still down and that's good, I wanted to sit and up shout at her "well I could have told you that!! Why bother coming here?!" Thankfully I composed myself.

    Don't give up. Your LO will be here soon. I'm also due the same day and I can't wait to meet her and understand the frustration! I've been having BH/abd. cramping for weeks now and I'm only 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. And try not to compare your pregnan

    I spontaneously went into labor with my first at 42 weeks exactly. If you go past your due date (which being a FTM you have a higher chance of doing) just wait it out as long as you can before giving up your induction free plans.

    If it helps at all, I've been dilated since 35 weeks and was 4cm at my 38 week appointment. Still no baby for me. Dilation doesn't mean all that much. You're LO will be here before you know it!

    I just had my doctors appt today and will be 39 weeks tomorrow... I'm 70 percent effaced but that's it, no dialation. It's not the end of the world.. Baby will be here when he/she wants. Be patient.

    this sounds like you read my mind completely.  Same dr.'s appointment (I"m 39 weeks).  I've been bleeding and having contractions and NOTHING!  So frustrating!

    You have 2 weeks before your due date and potentially another 2 after that to go into natural labor. If internals are discouraging you, then don't get them. With my first pregnancy, even though I knew they meant nothing and I was in no rush to have the ba
