Pregnant after 35

when is/was your first doctor's appointment

I'm just curious, after your initial appointment confirming your pregnancy, when was your next appointment scheduled for?

My first appointment is at 8 weeks with a nurse to just talk, and then my first OB appointment is at 10 weeks.   I know that I'm still really early, but I don't even really "feel" pregnant.  It's going to be a long several weeks!

Re: when is/was your first doctor's appointment

  • My doctor normally does a 1st visit around 8 weeks where you just talk to the nurse practicitioner and they just go over the basics. No examination at all. I hit 8 weeks on Christmas eve and their offices were closed so they wouldn't be able to get me in till 10 weeks. I've had 2 m/cs though and I couldn't wait that long so they had me come in for a "Proof of Pregnancy" appointment at 6 weeks. It wasn't much but they at least did a beta which at least gave me some reassurance that things were going well.

Since they couldn't get me in initially until 10 weeks I just had my next normal appointment at 12 weeks. I had my NT scan that week too so I felt like I was at the doctor constantly that month.

  • I had a confirmation appointment at 5 weeks 6 days. My OB did a pap, urine tests, and I had a transvaginal u/s. I saw my little sweet pea flickering and I heard what the tech said was a good strong heartbeat, which kind of shocked her since I was so early. I return for my first OB appointment on 3/22, I'll be 8 weeks 3 days.
  • I got my bfp at 4w2d and called to make an appointment right away but they didn't want to see me until 9 weeks. Not even to confirm pregnancy bc they said the poas tests are quite accurate. I ended up going to urgent care at 7 weeks due to bleeding and cramping though. Obv didnt lose the baby, thank goodness. that turned out to be the first of three times that happened. My regular prenatal appointments have been monthly with some extra ultrasound appointments thrown in for various reasons.

  • Oh, and I wanted to tell you that the first couple months dragged for me, too. For one thing ms was pretty miserable but also I just couldn't wait to start looking and feeling like I was pregnant and not just sick and chubby!

  • At my doctor's office it is their policy to start seeing maternity patients for prenatal visits at 8 weeks and the first visit must be with the Nurse Practitioner; however, the office was so booked up that I couldn't even get in for an appointment until 13 weeks. I just made sure to go in for lab work to have a record of confirmed pregnancy on file and I was already taking pre-natal vitamins, so I just waited for my appointment *patiently*. I am new to where I am living now, so I wanted to stick with this particular physician per the recommendation of my primary care doctor's suggestion.

  • Between 8-12 weeks is normal.
  • This time has been different from my last (5 years ago). I saw an NP at 7 weeks, dating u/s at 9 weeks (tech only), met with OB at 12 weeks.

This is what my OB's office does although I saw my RE at 6 weeks.
