Is it bad that I don't bath?

I have 2 second degree tears. I am keeping myself clean and I'm using the sprayer in the shower for a good "soak" but I've been in the tub only once. I hate getting in the tub as I have bladder issues and it always results in an infection. I technically am already covered with the antibiotics I'm on, but I still hate the tub. Is this bad?

  • I'm not really sure what you're asking... I always just take a shower to get clean. The only time I'm in the tub for a bath is when I'm cold or achy and just want a good hot soak. If you don't smell, I'd say you're good, lol.

  • Are you asking because your doctor recommended taking baths? I also have second degree tears and have not taken a bath and have no intention to as our small tub is just not at all comfortable for me with my 5'7" frame. If you want to tub bathe, fine, but it shouldn't be an issue if you don't want to.

  • The hospital sent me home with a sitz bath to hook up and use in the toilet and some vague instructions - haven't used it once. I did start taking mini baths a couple times a day, with just enough warm water to cover things up downstairs for about 5 minutes. I find it makes things a lot more comfortable down there once I'm done.

Best part? It's a guaranteed 5-10 minutes of "me" time when you count getting ready beforehand and dressed afterwards.

  • I hate taking baths too. I also had a second degree tear and have only taken two baths, I stay clean like you. I would say no, the bath is not necessary.

  • I have 2nd degree as well, im 4 wks pp and i also hate baths. I think i have taken two baths so far and seem to be healing fine. I tried the sitz bath but sitting there for fifteen minutes is torture. Haha. Havent tried that again since week one.
  • This is exactly what I needed to know. I thought maybe I should try and make a bigger effort to bath, since they stressed it at the hospital but I hate it and would rather shower. If I can get away without bathing I'm happy. Thanks!

  • At the hospital I was told no baths until six weeks because of infection risk. I have a second degree tear and shower and use the little spray bottle when I go to the bathroom.

  • Does it concern anyone else how we are all told such different things? I was told no baths for 2 weeks. Just wash the area with soap and water twice a day.
