TMI ALERT!!! Dark brown *HARD* discharge?

Could this be "the show"???

I have been having regular clear, whitish discharge for a couple weeks and the OB was not worried at all. Today I wiped after using the toilet (to urinate, not poo, which is why it was concerning) and I found a lot of hard, dark brown discharge.

I am 34 weeks along and I just have no clue if this is "the show" people get before labor or not.

On a side note (if any of this could help people identify what this is) I have been having more regular contractions (braxton we are thinking). My little man has been head-down for 4 weeks now. AND there is a ***TON*** of swelling in my vaginal area (my hubbers has been checking for me because obviously I can't see down there...).

  • Hard discharge?  Like little rocks?
The word you're looking for is SEX.  I promise.  No, it's not gender.  It's sex.  You're welcome.

I think "the show" refers to a "bloody show" but to be fair, no children have ever occupied my uterus.

  • I had my bloody show with my first pregnancy and it was a lot of bloody mucus. It happened every time that I wiped and my labor didn't start for almost 24 hours later.

  • The bloody show is usually red/pink blood. If you see brown, it is usually dried up old blood. I'd deff go see the OB.

I'm with PPs - this is cause for a call/visit to the doctor.

  • That sounds like you passed kidney stones ! And I currently have them and if they are an you had no pain , let me just say your the luckiest girl alive I honestly feel that having kidney stones is worse than giving actual birth ! But definalety call your doctor !

  • All joking aside, I'm gonna try to approach this from the medical student in me...

First off, are you for sure the hard discharge came from inside of you? Maybe you've been wearing shorts and something got stuck to the surrounding skin? If you're sure where its from, maybe it's an old blood clot. Or a stone like PP's have mentioned, but most people feel those. I can't really think of anything 'bad' that it could be... but its still quite a mystery!!

Hopefully your OB can shed some light on this since we're all curious now!!

  • Sorry if anyone had them for breakfast...but did they look like Grapenuts?  If so, most likely kidney stones.  And as pp said if you didn't even know you had them you are one lucky girl!!!
