Just jumping in to say those mini Frye boots are adorable.
Li's feet are still too small for them, but next fall I am definitely getting them for her!
They are too cute! I need to keep these in mind for next year.
Also that reminded me that I read an UO the other day and someone said they hated Frye boots. I immediately pictured this person in the teal running suit mentioned earlier.
Well, now that this has turned into a complete shiitstorm...
I have done all the things that Blu looks down upon. Every single one. It doesn't make me less of a mom, just the opposite. I was willing to try things that go against the norm and that went against my own AAP-based ideals to find what was best for my children.
I actually used to be a lot like Blu. But the universe has ways of making you a better person, so I predict a second pregnancy in Blu's near future.
Man you guys wait till I'm out of the house all day to really have fun, huh?
Here's the thing - I don't follow the AAP to the letter.
My job involves researching for a living. A lot of that is researching medical topics to discover what the standard of care is and why it is that way. The AAP is made up of a lot of pediatricians, as are all medical associations. The guidelines published by them are not those followed by every pediatrician, but a group gets together and come up with a consensus. Some voices are heard and some aren't. So what I do is when I have a question about something I go to the medical research and scientific studies to see what they say. Sometimes that agrees with the AAP, and sometimes it doesn't.
Most people don't do that. Which is fine. But if you're not going to do that, if you're going to go with "well it was good enough for me" then you can't really go around claiming that there isn't a good reason to do otherwise. Or telling other people who have done it that they're wrong. Or that you don't "believe" in the current research. Think about how ridiculous that would be. That would be like me saying "Well my grandmother is in her 80s with no heart or lung issues and she's been smoking since she was 12, so those of you who think cigarette smoking is bad for you are crazy." Or "I didn't have carseats when I was little and I'm fine, so anyone who uses a carseat is an overprotective moron." My biggest issue with LJ is she writes these kinds of things ALL the time. She has been since our children were born. She's done it twice this week alone. I let it go the first time, but when she did it in the shoe thing I called her out on it.
As I've said before - I don't give 2 shits what other people do with their kids. I don't care if you do research, go with your gut, or follow what your best friend's cousin's grandmother tells you to do. But if I did do the research, and it's not the same thing someone else does, I don't have a lot of patience for them saying it's wrong. I've said since our kids are born that my opinions aren't the same as most people on the board - and we all pretty much agree to live and let live except for a distinct few.
And I haven't said anything cunty about people having their kids too close together or sleep training their kids. I have said that I don't think having kids close together is a good excuse for Forward Facing - and I stand by that. And I do think the carseat situation is something to think about when you plan to have a kid. (obviously, when things aren't planned then you can't think about it ahead of time) If DH and I only had a 2 seater before LBB was born, would y'all be okay with me keeping him in the trunk because there was no room for a carseat? In general this board seems to be pro-extended rear facing, so I'm not sure when that turned into a bad thing. Or when we switched to "Well anything over 12 months is good enough." We post lots of things we don't consider to be good excuses for forward facing. I get that Kris is one of us, and I think she's fantastic and wonderful in every respect, but I don't pull punches just because I like you.
And she doesn't like me because her anus is darker than most and I think that makes her icky.
Dude, that sounds pretty racist to me. Not cool, LJ.
OMG. Watt? I don't think that she was implying what you're implying she's implying. I'm dying. Haha.
Seriously, you think that's a wild leap I took there? Wasn't the whole reason for the butthole bleaching because hers is darker because of her skin type and it made her self-conscious? I think it was established that most people's buttholes (besides lopes' perfect azz) were darker than their 'normal' skin tone, so it really seemed like packer was being singled out. Maybe I completely misunderstood. Either way, it's a pretty shitty thing to say. It's okay though, have a laugh.
Yes. That's why I get it done. I am self conscience about my skin tone. So I think it just adds to the ignorance she's spewed all day.
OMG no. No no no no no. You can't bring up your own asshoIe in jest and laughter and then call someone else racist for making fun of you. She's not degrading your race, she's preying on your insecurities.
I don't agree with everything LJ has said today by any means, but that doesn't make her racist.
I didn't call her a racist. I was agreeing with Woodsie that's why I get it it done. Not cause its "dirty" like LJ said. That's what makes her ignorant amongst other things.
I was all up in that thread and even called you out on hating your own taint color no one's called me ignorant or racist.
Blu, I get and can appreciate most of your post, but equating FFing my daughter at 18 months to driving with your kid in the trunk of a car?! I guess that makes as much sense as saying I don't care if my daughter dies because I am FFing her at 18 months. Sigh.
And she doesn't like me because her anus is darker than most and I think that makes her icky.

Actually I think the reason my azzhole is pretty much the same color as my skin because I have no azz, my back just runs straight into my thighs. It's pretty sad looking.

I thought it was a dig at hygiene... I don't remember the other thread. Crappy things, pun intended, have been said on both sides. I don't think it needs to bring up sub arguments.
The resident Negro has already spoken. That was some sh!t and I think she knew exactly what she was saying.
First if all, I have no clue what packer looks like. I'm always on mobile. I don't know if she's black, white, purple or green. Nor do I care. She was referring to the darkened skin. Skin darker than her other skin, regardless of race. I was making fun of the fact that she was so ashamed of her skin there that she bleached it..the act of which I find "icky". I likened it to being dirty, to further make fun of her...because, again, I find the whole thing nasty. There has to be something seriously wrong with someone to dare think there is any racial undertone, at all, involved in that.
Your statement was fairly ambiguous and though I wasn't the only one to jump to that conclusion I'm 100% willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm usually quite reluctant to label someone as racist, and I've had no negative experience with you so I'm backing out of the post and leaving it alone.

No I agree with you - that's not the comparison I was making. Obviously any carseat, forward or rear facing is 1 million times safer than putting your kid in the trunk. My example had to do with why I think carseats are an important discussion to have before you have a kid. Because it comes up in situations that aren't just dealing with a second child.
HTH means "hope that helps." People use it when they're being curt and implying that the poster is a bit of an idiot. I felt "yeah, you missed something" fell in that category, and I didn't appreciate it.
And yes, I did miss something. I never saw what packer said about her ethnicity and that being the reason why she thinks her crack is darker than it "should be." When she said earlier in the thread that she's self conscious about her skin tone, I honestly thought that was sarcasm. From what I read the other day, packer seemed to be defending that she does it because she likes it, not because she feels bad about herself. Which I guess isn't so true.
I agree with Pear - LJ was not picking on her ethnicity, but her insecurity. We can argue about whether that was fair game, but I do think you (and others) are reading more into it than was there. If I missed the ethnic connection, others probably did too.

If there is an imaginary line to stop talking about assholes, especially Packers,
I think it has been passed.
ETA:
Apparently assholes is ok to post because it is plural.

Yeah, not gonna happen d!ck.
And I think we need to hear from JG on this one.

Did I miss something? The context of the original issue was that buttholes are darker than other parts of your body. Was there more to it than that?
Don't get all "HTH" on me, Woods. If you have any idea what the hell you're talking about, please share with the rest of the class.
I put what LJ said the category of "dumb things LJ has said." I think you might be reaching a little here.

Well, that's what I get for both working and drinking when I bump. I miss sh*t, ya'll.
And come on, let's be fair. LJ isn't racist. She hates poor people of all races.
