I rarely post on here- my name is Vanessa and Im about 16 weeks with LO#2. Im wondering if any of you ladies also tested low for PAPP-A on your first tri sequential screening blood test? The NT ultrasound came out clear and HcG levels are good- Dr says dont worry, but that there is an increased chance for miscarriage, still birth, low birth weight, pre term birth, etc. It indicates something wrong with the placenta

Ugh I know I shouldn't worry about it but google has all kinds of crazy stats and its hard for me to just ignore it! I know there is nothing I can do about it but it still worries me.

Re: very low PAPP-A?
There is a blog about this.....not great outcome though.

Really?? Way to give support and encouragement. Instead you probably scared the crap out of her.
im sry. It was the wrong approach, but that is why I said not a great outcome and its your choice if you want to read it. Also, there are differences like the person had no Papp-a, which is different from the above post.
finally, I'm under that I would like both sides of the story -good or bad and not just don't worry ... Everything will be fine type stuff. I thought she was looking for both good or bad and if not and only positive outcomes, I will delete, because this doesn't apply.

My first tri screen came back low for PAPP-A, higher for HCG, and a Downs risk of 1 in 22. I FREAKED out, wanted answers ASAP and had a CVS the next day. They also took blood for the Maternity 21 test. The CVS was terrible as they had to go in abdominally (similar to an amnio but more painful according to the MFM doc who did it).
They ended up canceling the Mat21 test as the doc got a big enough sample during the CVS to get preliminary results back the next day. We opted for both the Mat21 test and the CVS as we wanted to know as much as possible right away. Had the CVS not been a big enough sample we would have to wait 10-14 days for the results. So we did the Mat21 as those results can come back sooner.
ANYWAY. Everything came back fine. No DS, no other chromosomal abnormalities. The docs did say that the higher levels of PAPP-A can be an indicator of future pre-eclampsia, low birth weight, IUGR, GD, and fetal demise. However, those occurrences are rare.
So I'll just be monitored closely through the rest of this pregnancy. I'll have a few growth scans toward the end, Have my BP checked frequently, and we'll have a fetal echo at the 20 week scan as a precaution looking for any heart defects.
It was scary at first and waiting for those results was terrible. But now we know everything is fine and we'll proceed with a watchful eye. My midwife isn't concerned unless there's something to be concerned about and for now we're good.
I've read this already- pretty much spent 2 full days reading everything online I could, including posts like this- thus the reference to google in my OP. I was really looking for people on this board going through the same thing that could relate for mutual support, etc. My percentile was 5th too, but my number seems so low! (.16?)
Im debating on getting a CVS. Based on the NT, I think our odds are 1 in 2000 or something like that- so that is encouraging. UGH. thanks ladies... I feel better knowing that others are going through the same thing. Hoping for a good outcome for all of us! xo
im sry that you are going through this. Hoping for a good outcome!
