In the front of the house there is a wide, short hallway that has the playroom off of it. We also keep that catbox right by the front door (we enter through the garage normally). I never once had an issue with DD trying to crawl to the cat box. It was strange, but she just knew to stay away. DS on the other hand is obsessed with going over to it and I am not sure what to do!
I guess we could try to put a baby gate, but the hallway is about 6 feet wide so I am not sure if they even make gates for that. A gate would also block off my toddler from getting in her playroom. there really isn't anywhere else to put the cat box either.
SO WHAT DO I DO!!??
Re: Recommend a babyproofing solution if you have a cat ...
The previous solutions are good ones. Is the cat young? I know our cats were able to jump over gates that weren't super high. You could possibly block just the box itself with enough room for the cat to jump over to get to it. This obviously won't work if the kitty is old or can't jump well.
You can also just try the frustrating method of repetition and hope that eventually the baby "gets" it. We had that problem not with the litter boxes, but the cat food and water bowls and it was annoying to constantly have to redirect and say "no" but my son eventually understood that those were off limits.
Good luck!
