I did it! I checked into a few housekeepers and one will be coming today to give us a price for doing work. I realize that I need to get references from her and check with her references but aside from that what questions should I be asking her? Even if you don't have a housekeeper what would you be asking? TIA.
Re: What would you ask?
Does she do windows.
Does she hand clean the floors.
Will she change your sheets.
What is her availability.
You could ask her to price out what it cost to clean certain areas of the house vs the whole house like if she just did the first floor and all bathrooms.
References.
What is a child abuse registry?
Do they have insurance?
I would also ask specifically what the clean. If they need you to do anything in preparation of them coming (like my ladies would change my sheets if I left clean ones on top of the bed).
Oh sorry, it's Canadian. It is similar to a criminal record search but it searches for any charges involving child abuse.
If we hire her she would be cleaning our home when we are not there so she would probably never see DS. I am not sure if we have a registry like that but we definitely have a sex offender registry which includes sex crimes against minors. ::runs off to check it::
I would just have a list of things you want done and ask if she does those things. If you're concerned about the type of chemicals she uses you can ask about that. I think all of the other suggestions are good things to ask too.
Oh and also I am totally jealous!
There is a sex offender registry you can check in all states, too.
I have been kicking this around since shortly before DS was born. I have been overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done, and even with DH doing a lot, it still seems like we can't get everything done and have time to relax. We haven't committed to this 100% but rates do seem to be a bit cheaper out here. If her rate falls under $150/mo for bi-weekly cleaning we can probably make cuts in other areas to afford it and buy us some spare time. if not then maybe we can at least hire her for 1x a month.
