Trouble TTC

Slow follicle growth on injects

Help me out here with your wisdom...

Just got done ultrasound and my follicles are growing very slow. Day 6 we had 2 "8mm"and a handful of 5mm. Day 9 we had 5 "8 9 mm" and some smaller ones, and now on day 11 we have one 10.5 mm and a few 9.5 mm, and some smaller ones.

We are on injectables for an iui cycle 200 iui of puregon per day.

Waiting for the RE now but not sure what to think. They aren't even halfway there yet on CD 11 after 10 days of injectables.

Anyone had a cycle like this and made it to a good trigger?

Re: Slow follicle growth on injects

  • Update: saw the RE and we aren't cancelling yet, just raising the dosages and hoping now for 1 or 2 follicles rather than the optimal 3 or 4....

RE says not to get despondent about this cycle yet, but if this one doesn't take she is strongly recommending trying IVF or IVF with my partner's eggs, or just getting my partner pregnant. Sad face...

  • I'm surprised they haven't increased your dosage.  Given you have DOR, I wouldn't be surprised with the slow growth but I think your RE will want to be more aggresive with you.  I don't have any advice for you this cycle but I hope you can get to trigger.

  • In January my injects cycle was a slow starter for me.  At three days of stims non were above 10mm.  After five days of stims I only had three follies looking like they were doing any growth - but they were only 11, 12 and 13mm.  Then two days later after seven days of stims one had massive rapid growth and was 20mm and the other two were 16 & 16.5.

As long as your e2 is still raising there is still a chance.  Some times it just takes a little longer.  Remember suddenly, like mine you can have a day or two where they grow 3-4mm in a day.  That 10.5 might be 17 or 18 on cd13.  Or it might take until cd15.  I have seen some girls just have to stim a lot longer then they expected.

There is nothing wrong with low and slow cookin! :)

  • Thanks for the reassurance and voice of experience. Fingers crossed that we get at least 2 good follicles this cycle because I think I may be done trying iui based on the RE's comments today after this cycle.

This past IUI (February) I only had 1 mature follicle. When the cycle 1st started, I had several that were growing but then shrunk somehow around CD 8. I don't think they will ask you to trigger until 18mm. Hang in there, hopefully they will grow (supposed to grow 1-2 mm daily).

    Me: 32, DH: 34.
Trying since Jan 2011. Unexplained IF.
    2 IUIs = BFN.
    1 IVF (Dec 2013) = BFN.
    FET, 2 frosties (June 13, 2014)

    14dp5dt-June 27 -BFP, beta 2061. 2nd beta >5000, 3rd beta >5000, 2 sacs 06/30.
Twin Girls - 02/11/15 - at 37 weeks (no NICU, home with me at 3 days).
  • I am on cycle #2 with injects (#6 IUI) and my follies grow SUUUPER slow...a lot slower than they did on Clomid. They were giving me 150mg of hMG every other day and just upped my dosage to 300mg every day and that seemed to help. Last cycle I didn't even trigger until CD21 which made for a really long cycle seeing as mine are usually 30 days. Today is CD16 for me and my monitoring ultrasound this afternoon showed a 13mm follicle which was the biggest of 4-5 in there.
