March 2013 Moms

So frustrating!

Ella woke up nice and hungry which is rare. Usually I have to wake her up and fight her to stay awake to finish her bottle for a good 45 minutes. I was exhausted and honestly not paying attention to just how fast she was eating. I burped every half ounce but it only took her 15 min to feed and as soon as I finished burping her she had a huge spit up all over my bed. Ugh!!!! I don't know if I'm more frustrated over the extra laundry or the lost calories. I just hate when my LO loses any food because she needs to chunk up for the pedi this afternoon. I am so scared they will make her go to the hospital if she keeps losing.

Re: So frustrating!

  • Keep your head up, mama. I'm sorry she keeps spitting up her food. It makes me wonder if she has some reflux? DD used to spit up and projectile vomit all over everything after she ate. Every time. Pedi put her on Zantac and we never had an issue again. Wouldn't hurt to inquire about that.

I hope you get some good news at the pedi today. Let us know how it goes!

  • Spit up almost always looks like WAY more than it actually is. Try not to worry (I know that's hard, my DS was always a slow gainer). Hope your appointment goes well.
  • If it makes you feel any better, me and baby have had a lot of difficulties getting the hang of breastfeeding. We finally called in a lactation consultant, and now things are going a bit better, but I feel like making sure baby is eating enough is the most stressful part of the first few weeks.

Anyhow, my lactation consultant said that baby spit up is mostly made up of digestive juices from the baby, so she's not losing as much as it looks like.

Hang in there, I'm sure things are going to be fine, and they will get better!

  • I found that sitting my LOs up while feeding helped a lot.
