Hi,
I hardly ever post, & of course plan to talk w/ my Ped &/or a LC, but hoped to get some insight from you ladies about this...
My baby girl Elise was born Dec 22 & is at her 5th day of daycare today... I have so far been sending about 15oz of expressed breast milk with her each day (divided between 4 bottles). Except for her first day, she has been drinking it all, (which is great because she never would take a bottle from me personally)! However, the staff have asked if we can send an additional bottle *if possible*, and I am starting to wonder if my daughter may be drinking more per feeding just because of the nature of bottle-feeding versus breast feeding? Should I try to send more even though that is literally more than my body produces in that time period? I am pumping like crazy while away from her, but can't seem to get any "extra" back-stock of milk at all
I don't think I have low supply issues b/c she has only had 2oz of formula since she was born, and she gained 2 & 1/2 lbs between her 1mo & 2mo appointments, lots of wet/dirty dipes, etc... She did not digest the formula well the time she did have it at her gma's house, and now I am starting to worry & get my first feelings of mom guilt over all of this.
What do you think?
Re: How many oz BM to send to daycare for a 10 week old?
The first few weeks of day care are rough, and LOs really do eat more just to help them adjust. When DS first started at 10 weeks, I sent 4 4-ounce bottles of BM each day.
That said, you shouldn't be producing more than she's eating. That is the nature of milk supply and demand. Sometimes we get lucky and can pump a few more ounces and sack it away, but the older our LOs get, and the longer we are away from them, our supplies do suffer. Be thankful you can keep up with her daily needs.
My suggestion would be to split it up to 5 bottles with 3 oz and ask them to feed her more often (every two hours). Does she take a nuk? She might be just adjusting and eating to comfort herself. Good luck!
